The Kaaba houses the mysterious Black Stone, which was revered in Mecca in pre-Islamic times as well. It became a Muslim relic in the time of the Prophet Muhammad and pilgrims to Mecca try to stop and kiss it while circumambulating the Kaaba during the hajj. According to archaeologists, the Kaaba certainly predates Islam. It was rebuilt several times by the tribes ruling Mecca, who used it to house sacred objects, including the Black Stone, and as a shrine to Arabian tribal gods.
The Kaaba is cubed building that has beautiful view ever, unlike almost any other religious structure. It is fifteen meters tall and ten and a half meters on each side; its corners roughly align with the cardinal directions. The door of the Kaaba is now made of solid gold; it was added in 1982. The kiswa—the large cloth that covers the Kaaba—used to be sent from Egypt with the hajj caravan but today is made in Saudi Arabia. Until the advent of modern transportation, all pilgrims undertook the often dangerous hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca in a large caravan across the desert, leaving from Damascus, Cairo, and other major cities in Arabia, Yemen, or Iraq. It is an Islamic iconic that had already known over the world. All Muslims have to come here to fulfill their duty to their God. Since it is considered as “House of God” for Muslim and it is located in Mecca, Al-Hejaz, Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, it is the biggest center of Islam. When Muslim salat, they are expected to face the Kaaba. It is called as Qibla that decides the direction of Muslim while they were praying. Then you have to know that this place is the most sacred site in Islam.
Five pillars of Islam are Muslim must to do “hajj” in the Kaaba. So, that’s why this place looks like never sleep. The religion’s metropolitan place ever, every year there are lots of Muslims that came to visit The Kaaba. They come to do Hajj or Umrah. This building also called by any names such as Bait, Bait UL Haram, Bait Ullah, Bait al-Ateeq, Awal UL Bait, and the Kaaba. The name “Bait” has meant “The Holy House” while “Kaaba” means square or cube. If you visit this place, you will see lots of people doing “Tawaf”. Tawaf is one of activity while you are doing “hajj” or “Umrah”.
The Kaaba has its own beautiful side, in the night this place will be great and make people who visit this place become calm and relax. Another interesting point about this building, the last renovation was held in 1996. It means that the building is more secure, stable than before, since there is no reconstruction again until this year.
Although it is the religion site of Islam, this place is not only for prayer. There are many couples who have already married; they decided to start their new life from this place.
